|Trojans defeat Rams in Thriller
EAST LANSING- The Trojan soccer team earned a hard fought 3-2 win over the Holt
Rams in a wild soccer match at Archer Stadium Wednesday night. East Lansing
found themselves in a hole midway through the first half when an intentional
hand ball cost the Trojans a player, due to a mandatory red card, and also put
them behind 1-0 after a Holts Alec Gnass convert on the penalty kick.
The Trojans came roaring back at the end of the half when Jared Howenstine
scored to tie the game right before halftime. Early in the second half, East
Lansing came out determined to overcome the player deficit and took a 2-1 lead
after a Trevor Earley goal minutes into the second half. Four minutes later the
Trojans scored again on a goal from DeJuan Jones off a pass from Ben Swanson-Ralph.
Holt did respond with twenty minutes to go in the game on a goal from Holt Rams senior Jake Welch to
cut the lead to 3-2. It looked like the Rams tied it with five minutes
remaining, but the goal was called off after a foul on a Ram player. Blair
Moore earned the win in net and stopped 9 shots for the Trojans and Kaleb Akers
made 8 stops for the Rams.
The Trojans had a clean sweep. The freshmen squad defeated the Okemos freshmen
team 2-1 and the Junior Varsity defeated the Holt JV 2-0. East Lansing will be
off this weekend and will return to CAAC Blue action on Monday against Lansing
Everett at 6:30 at Archer Stadium. East Lansings Varsity is 10-0 Over-All and 3-0 in the CAAC
Blue and Holt Varsity is 5-2-1 Over-all and 2-1-0 in the CAAC Blue.
