Multiple Teams · Spring Sports begin March 9th


Monday, March 9th marks the official opening of the spring sports season across the State of Michigan. The first practices and tryouts will be held for the following sports at East Lansing High School on March 9th. Spring sports include; boys and girls track and field, boys and girls lacrosse, baseball, softball, boys golf, girls soccer and girls tennis.

Athletes are reminded they MUST have a valid physical (dated after April 15, 2014) on file in the athletic office to attend any practice or tryout session. No exceptions.

Pay to participate fees remain $275.00 per athlete, per school year. If you have not already done so the fee is due prior to the first scheduled contest and can be paid in the athletic office during regular school hours. Checks should be made payable to East Lansing High School. Credit Card and on-line payments can be made by using an existing account or creating and account at www.sendmoneytoschool.com

The following is a schedule for the first few weeks of spring sports. As weather permits teams will move outside to for practice. In all cases student athletes should be prepared to go outside if weather permits. The indoor practice schedule is as follows:

The East Lansing varsity boys basketball team handed grand Ledge its second loss of the season with a convincing 71-54 victory at GL on Tuesday night. Freshman Brandon Johns had 22, points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots to lead the Trojans (10-7, 8-5). DeAndre Robinson had 13 points and BJ Powell added 10 points for the Trojans.

East Lansing will host Okemos this Friday at 6:00 PM in the final CAAC Blue division game

The East Lansing girls basketball team beat the Grand Ledge Comets 55-41 on Tuesday night to keep CAAC Blue title hope alive. Amelia McNutt led the team with 14 points and fellow freshman Aazh Nye chipped in 13 for the Trojans.

East Lansing held the Comets to just 13 second half points and erased an 8 point halftime deficit to secure the win. The Trojans remain 1 game out of first place and will play arch rival Okemos at home on Friday night, Grand Ledge will host Holt. If East Lansing and Holt win it will create a 3-way tie for the league title with Grand Ledge, Holt and East Lansing.

The boys varsity bowling team won 10 matches for the second straight year with today’s 16 to 14 victory over Grand Ledge. Josh Meyer had the only 200 game for the Trojans, shooting a 209. Joe Croom had games of 194 and 193. The Trojans took 16 of the first 20 points to secure the victory. The Trojans’ record currently stands at 10-1-1.

The girls varsity bowling team lost a tough match to Grand Ledge by a score of 18 to 12. The Trojans lost the first regular game by 16 pins; the second regular game by 14 pins; and the first Baker game by 7 pins. A win in any of those would have given the Trojans a victory. Katherine Martin led East Lansing with games of 149 and 123 for a 272 series. Diana Camarillo was close behind with games of 138 and 132 for a 270 series. The girls record stands at 6-6 this season.

The boys junior varsity team won its match against the Holt Rams by a score of 23 to 7. The Trojans had this match won after the two regular games, leading by a score of 17 to 3. High scores for East Lansing included Sam Guthrie with a 147; Hunter Potter with a 132 and a 123; Jack Gagnier with a 130; and Jake Daniels with a 125. The Trojans also shot a 152 in the first Baker game.

The girls varsity bowling team ended the league season with a record of 5-5, good for third place, after defeating the Holt Rams by a score of 26 to 4. The Trojans had this match wrapped up after the two regular games, shooting games of 654 and 704, one of their best outings of the year. Abigail Wolfe led the way with games of 168 and 172 for a 340 series. Other high scores included Katherine Martin with a 144; Katie Wheeler with a 139; Montgomery Smith with a 135; and Diana Camarillo with a 132. Alyssa Jennings added a couple of 121s. East Lansing also won both Baker games with scores of 160 and 154.

BOYS VARSITY BOWLING TEAM CLINCHES CAAC RED DIVISION TITLE! East Lansing won the CAAC Red division title today with a 23 to 7 victory over the Holt Rams. The Trojans finished the league season with a record of 8-1-1, edging out last year’s champions, the Jackson Vikings who finished 8-2. The boys saved their best bowling for their last league match, averaging 190.4 per bowler on their way to winning both regular games by scores of 965 to 860, and 939 to 936; this gave them an insurmountable 17 to 3 lead. They split the Baker games, losing the first by a score of 163 to 157, before coming back in the second to win by a score of 203 to 116. Ethan Franklin led the way for the Trojans with games of 215 and 204 for a 419 series. Adrian Berding added games of 182 and 212 for a 394 series. Joe Croom had a 207; and Nick Reynolds added a 194.

The girls varsity bowling team finished in fifth place in the Owosso Regional Tune-up Tournament. Seven teams took part in the tournament, which consisted of a qualifying block of two Baker games and two regular games, followed by a stepladder rolloff; because only seven teams entered, all made the rolloff. The girls placed fifth after the qualifying block with a total pinfall of 1507. In the stepladder rolloff, they lost to fourth-seed Portland in the first round by a score of 327 to 254, determined by total pinfall in two Baker games. Jackson won the tournament over Mason.
