Game Recap

The Trojans of East Lansing found it tough going tonight while visiting the Lansing Eastern Quakers. The Quakers came out with great hustle, determination andtheir usual high pressure defense. A much improved Eastern team tested the trojans defense with the forwards speed of play. However the Trojans finally got on the board when Alden Metzmaker found Kai Francisco just outside the top of the box in which he settled the ball and a nice shot pass the Quaker keeper, Lucas Domingo, in the twelve minute of the game. Petrus Marten would score the second goal of the game when he collected a nice pass from Ryan Nichols. Eastern would not give up and continue to pressure the Trojans and hold them to only a 2-0 score at the end of the first half. The second half would find the Eastern team raising defensive havoc with the Trojan midfielders and forwards with their high pressure around the ball. In the end thou the Trojans would score their third and last goal of the game. Again Petrus Marten would settle a nice pass behind the Quakers defense for a breakaway in which he showed great patience in waiting for the the keeper to make some form of commitment and beat him to the far post. The East Lansing Trojans defensive backs (Lucas Pollack, Omar Elrashid, Alec Fordell, Keeton Bigham-Tsai, Robert Nystrom) as well as their keeper for the night (Ben Maves) did a great job in helping the team earn a nice shut-out.

The Trojans Varsity and JV will host their second and last East Lansing soccer Invitational of the season this coming Saturday, Sept 16th (Saginaw Heritage, Portage Northern and Dewitt). The JV teams will play at 10:00 am & 1:00pm and the Varsity Teams will play at 11:30 am & 2:30 pm. All Invitational games will be played in Archer Stadium.

Note: The Capital Area Classic and the Cap City teams have games all day. Please be sure to limit cars if possible.

Game Recap

East Lansing Trojans get a much need win at Mason. It was evident from the start in this game that both wanted this game very badly. East Lansing struck first when Junior Kai Francisco connected with a nice pass to Ansumana Lebbie at the top and middle of the box who beat the Mason Goalkeeper (Sam Spitzley) cleanly. The first half would have both team going back and forth and neither team able to score another goal in the first half.
With East Lansing leading 1-0 starting the second half they wasted no time in scoring there second goal seven minutes in, as Kai Fransico again made a great pass to the far side of the field to find Petrus Martin who finished his shot beautifully in which the Keeper had no chance of a save. East Lansing clearly found its sync and pace as as a team on both sides of the ball on this Saturday afternoon. They would finish their scoring with a goal in the the sixty-eight minute of the game when the Bulldog Keeper was not able to get a handle on two successive saves. With a loose ball in the box Tawfeek Shetiah would find the ball having rebounded to his feet were he touched the ball past the off balance Mason keeper.

East Lansing had a shut out in hand with less then thirty seconds left in the game. With about 10 seconds left a foul was committed by a Trojan player to give Mason a free kick from about 40 yards out. With the long free kick taken by Mason and contact of body’s in the air inside of the goalie box the ball flew by the East Lansing Keeper to ruin what would have been a great effort for a shut out. However the that does not take away from the effort and hard work of the Trojans back line and two keepers on this beautiful September afternoon.

East Lansing will be home next Monday (Sept. 11 @ 6:30 pm) facing off against the Everett Vikings. The Trojans will then travel to Lansing Eastern on Wednesday (Sept. 13 @ 5:30pm) game to be played behind the Don Johnson field house and past high school track. On Saturday, September 16 the East Lansing Trojans will host its second and last Varsity and Jv Boys Soccer Invitational at “Archer Stadium” soccer complex.

Game Recap

MASON- It’s rare to score three goals but only win 2-1 in the game of soccer but the East Lansing Junior Varsity boys did just that during a Saturday morning clash with the Mason Bulldogs.

The Trojans opened the scoring when Cade Moreno knocked a beautiful set piece to the head of Benno Staszewski to put East Lansing up 1-0. Moments later the Bulldogs found the equalizer when the ball deflected off the head of a Trojan defender knotting the game at 1-1.

After a tightly played second half the Trojans had a flurry of activity with less than two minuted remaining when Evan Wood was brought down in the box leading to a penalty kick scored by Moreno.

Nekko Criswell-Grinage played extremely well delivering on five saves including a point blank opportunity late in the game. Andrew Mahler, Aiden Rudy, Brock Hogan and Xzavier Konnet did a tremendous job in the back.

East Lansing will host Lansing Everett on Monday at the Arch. Game starts at 5PM. The Trojans are 6-1-1 on the season.
