East Lansing Trojans Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 13-6 loss to Grand Ledge on Monday. Grand Ledge scored on a single by Logan Hylek in the first inning, a walk by Payton Wieber in the first inning, a triple by Aaron West in the second inning, and a groundout by Hylek in the second inning.
East Lansing Trojans Varsity collected five hits and Grand Ledge had nine in the high-scoring affair.
East Lansing Trojans Varsity evened things up at two in the bottom of the first inning when Aiden Rudy singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
After Grand Ledge scored two runs in the top of the fifth, East Lansing Trojans Varsity answered with two of their own. Grand Ledge scored when Noah Warren singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run and West was hit by a pitch, driving in a run. East Lansing Trojans Varsity then answered when Ethan Cullen doubled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run and Nolan Ballard singled on a 1-0 count, scoring one run.
Grand Ledge pulled away for good with three runs in the second inning. In the second West tripled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs and Hylek grounded out, scoring one run.
Grand Ledge scored three runs in the sixth inning. Wieber and Warren all moved runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.
Brayden Denny earned the win for Grand Ledge. He allowed one hit and three runs over three innings, striking out three. Diego Rivera threw four innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Ballard took the loss for East Lansing Trojans Varsity. He went three innings, allowing four runs on three hits and striking out two.
Jack Belloli started the game for East Lansing Trojans Varsity. He went two innings, allowing six runs on four hits
Rudy led East Lansing Trojans Varsity with two hits in four at bats.
Grand Ledge tallied nine hits on the day. Warren, Hylek, and West all had multiple hits for Grand Ledge.
