East Lansing Trojans Varsity ran off with the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Ionia on Thursday. The game was tied at five with East Lansing Trojans Varsity batting in the bottom of the sixth when Emily Fordell singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Ionia scored three runs in the first inning, but East Lansing Trojans Varsity still managed to pull out the victory. Ionia offense in the inning was led by Michaela Castle, Alexis Spratto, and Mikenzie Weaver, all knocking in runs in the inning.
Ionia opened up scoring in the first inning.
East Lansing Trojans Varsity scored four runs in the third inning. East Lansing Trojans Varsity’s offense in the inning came from singles by Megan Nichols and Alexis Johnson, a walk by Courtney Bertsch, and by Ellie Myron.
Myron got the start for East Lansing Trojans Varsity. She lasted seven innings, allowing ten hits and five runs while striking out seven.
Sara Bevington was in the circle for Ionia. She allowed nine hits and six runs over six innings, striking out five and walking one.
Nichols went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead East Lansing Trojans Varsity in hits.
Ionia tallied ten hits in the game. Ashleigh Brown, Spratto, and Castle each racked up multiple hits for Ionia. Ionia was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error. Spratto made the most plays with six.
