East Lansing went on the road to St. John’s on an icy winter night but managed to get hot in the second half and earn a big win over the Redwings.
Trailing 18-16 to start the second half, the Trojans went on a 16-5 run that went into the start of the 4th quarter. Payton Baker finished the run with a lay-up that turned out to be the winning points, and Gracie Emerson had two important free throws with :17 seconds remaining to secure the win.
Leading the way for the Trojans were Emerson and EmmaRae Vanderbush with 8 points, Kayelyn Keyton with 7 points including a key 3-point basket during the 3rd quarter run, and Baker with a strong defensive effort on St. Johns best player while scoring 4 points.
The Trojans are riding a 3-game winning streak and improve to (4-6) overall, (2-4) in conference play. Their next game will be Thursday (1/24) at home vs Waverly when 9th grade will tip at 5:30pm and JV will follow at 7pm.
